
Born April 16, 1955 in Marshall, Michigan, Rabbi Michael J. Oyler is the son of Connie James Oyler who served his country in Army intelligence during post-WWII Germany. It was there Michael’s father met his German immigrant mother, Leonore (Von Fiedler) Oyler.
Settling in Ohio in 1961, this is where Michael spent much of his childhood and young adult years. A product of Firestone High School in Akron, Rabbi Oyler went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Akron 1981. Following graduation, Rabbi Michael spent the next several years both self-employed and in the retail field.
In May of 1988 Michael accepted an invitation to receive Yeshua from Reverend Curt Thomas. Rabbi nurtured his commitment to Yeshua at the Cathedral of Life under the ministry of Bishop Herschel Gammill.
Responding in 1990 to a ministry call, Michael Oyler left North Canton to pursue his Masters of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California presented to him in 1993.
Approximately a year after earning his degree, Michael began a 3-year internship under Rabbi Murray Silberling of Beth Emunah Messianic Congregation in Agoura Hills, CA.
Rabbi Oyler returned to Ohio in April of 1998 to help plant Canton’s first Messianic Congregation, The Star in the East.
After 5 years of co-existing in two different churches, in 2003 Rabbi Oyler moved the congregation into its first facility located at 2686 Easton Street NE in the Oakwood Square Plaza in North Canton.
In the Autumn of 2008, the STAR moved into its current location, a larger 10,000 square foot space in the same plaza. The new facility still under construction will hold the sanctuary, fellowship area, kitchen area, main and pastoral offices, 3 classrooms with an additional teen room and a Judaica shop.
On a local level, Rabbi Oyler has hosted community Passover Seder celebrations for the past 10 years, a regular at National Day of Prayer observances, participated in Canton Naturalization cermonies, opened the Ohio House of Representatives in Prayer and continues as a member of the Canton Ministerial Association.
A regular teacher at Messianic conferences both on the regional and national level, some of his topics have covered stewardship, worship, Jew and Gentile relationships, the Jezebel spirit and most recently, solving the mystery of the birth of Yeshua/Jesus.
Rabbi Oyler has been blessed with 5 children...Jadin James, Ari'el Simcha, Michael Shalom, Misha Raquel and Robert Nathan.
